Eugene von Guerard. Lake Wakatipu with Mount Earnslaw, Middle Island, New Zealand (1877–79) Oil on canvas. Eugene von Guerard was born in Vienna in 1811 and he migrated to Australia in 1852. He is one of Victoria’s most celebrated artists from the early colonial period. His work is showing at the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, until 15th of July 2012.
